Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has entered a major compute partnership with SpaceX to significantly expand the infrastructure supporting its Claude AI platform. The deal comes as demand for Anthropic’s AI products, particularly Claude Code and enterprise AI services, continues to surge globally.
Under the agreement, Anthropic will utilize computing resources from SpaceX’s “Colossus 1” data centre in Memphis, Tennessee. The facility is one of the world’s largest AI supercomputing clusters and is powered by more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs, providing over 300 megawatts of compute capacity.
The partnership is expected to substantially increase Anthropic’s AI processing capacity, allowing the company to improve performance across Claude products and raise usage limits for developers and premium users. Anthropic has already announced higher rate limits, expanded API access, and the removal of some peak-hour restrictions for Claude subscribers because of the added infrastructure.
The agreement is notable because it marks a growing alignment between Anthropic and Elon Musk’s broader AI infrastructure ecosystem, despite previous tensions between Musk and the company. Musk, who had earlier criticized Anthropic, has reportedly softened his stance after discussions with the company’s leadership and expressed support for the collaboration.
Beyond immediate compute expansion, the partnership could evolve into more ambitious infrastructure projects in the future. Reports suggest the companies are exploring possibilities such as orbital AI data centres and space-based compute infrastructure, aligning with SpaceX’s long-term ambitions in advanced computing and energy-efficient AI operations.
