Apple’s India Unit Records ₹650 Crore in Software Revenue as Local Mandate Expands

Apple has begun reporting software-development revenue in India through Apple Operations India, indicating a broader local mandate beyond manufacturing support and device-market operations. The subsidiary generated ₹650 crore from software development in FY26 after reporting no revenue from the segment in the previous financial year.

Apple Operations India began commercial activity in FY25 and provides services to other entities within the Apple group. Its stated activities include software development, manufacturing support, project management, procurement assistance and global support services.

Total revenue from these activities exceeded ₹1,400 crore in FY26, up from ₹318 crore in FY25. Net profit increased to ₹103 crore from ₹28 crore over the same period. Revenue from manufacturing-support services nearly doubled to ₹520 crore, compared with ₹282 crore a year earlier.

Approximately 97% of the subsidiary’s business was conducted for Apple’s global operations, including Apple Inc. and Apple Operations International. The related-party nature of the work indicates that the Indian entity is being used as part of Apple’s international engineering, operational-support and supply-chain structure rather than functioning only as a domestic sales organisation.

The appearance of software development and project management as revenue-generating activities represents a material change in the composition of the subsidiary. Apple has already built an extensive Indian production ecosystem for iPhones and other devices through contract manufacturers and component suppliers. The new disclosures add an engineering and services layer to that presence.

India’s role in Apple’s operating model now spans several functions: consumer sales, retail stores, export-oriented device assembly, supplier development, manufacturing support and technology services for global affiliates. Apple Operations India’s filings do not identify the individual software projects undertaken or provide a detailed breakdown of staffing and engineering functions. They nevertheless show that software work has become a significant source of revenue within one year.

The expansion also places Apple within a larger trend in which multinational technology companies are assigning Indian teams responsibilities extending beyond conventional IT support. These operations increasingly cover product engineering, platform development, data, security, procurement and the management of global programmes.

The ₹650-crore software contribution is smaller than the value associated with Apple’s device sales and manufacturing ecosystem, but it represents a distinct business activity with its own engineering and talent implications. Combined with the growth in manufacturing support, it shows the subsidiary evolving into a multi-function operating centre serving Apple’s wider global organisation.
