Bluesky experienced a significant outage around April 16, 2026, causing widespread disruption for users who reported issues like feeds not loading, app errors, and intermittent access.
The company confirmed that the incident began late on April 15 and was linked to a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, which intensified over time and led to repeated service interruptions.
At the same time, technical issues with key servers further worsened the situation. Reports indicate that failures in specific API servers caused roughly half of platform interactions to fail, meaning some users could still access parts of the app while others couldn’t.
The outage lasted several hours, with spikes of thousands of user complaints on outage trackers. Even after partial fixes were deployed, users continued to face unstable performance and intermittent downtime before services gradually improved.
Bluesky has stated that there is no evidence of user data being compromised, and the issue was primarily related to infrastructure stress rather than a data breach.
