AI coding startup Cursor is in advanced discussions to raise at least $2 billion in fresh funding, with the potential valuation crossing $50 billion, reflecting strong investor confidence in the booming AI-assisted software development space.
The funding round is expected to be led by existing investors Andreessen Horowitz and Thrive Capital, with participation from Nvidia and potential new investor Battery Ventures. The deal is reportedly oversubscribed, although final terms are still being negotiated and could change.
If completed, the round would nearly double Cursor’s previous valuation of $29.3 billion, which was set just six months ago, highlighting the company’s rapid rise in the competitive AI coding market.
Cursor’s growth has been driven by strong enterprise adoption and surging revenue. The company reached an annualized revenue run rate of around $2 billion earlier in 2026 and is forecasting more than $6 billion by the end of the year, indicating aggressive scaling.
The startup offers an AI-powered coding environment that allows developers to generate, edit, and understand code using natural language prompts. Its recent shift toward proprietary models, alongside integration with lower-cost external AI models, has also helped improve its margins after initially operating at a loss.
Despite rising competition from players like OpenAI and Anthropic in the AI coding space, Cursor continues to gain traction, with adoption across tens of thousands of engineering teams and widespread usage among large enterprises.
