Google has officially begun construction of its first large-scale artificial intelligence hub in India, marking a major milestone in its $15 billion investment plan aimed at strengthening the country’s digital ecosystem. The project, located in Visakhapatnam, is part of a long-term strategy to expand AI and cloud infrastructure while supporting India’s growing demand for advanced computing capabilities.
The AI hub will feature a massive, gigawatt-scale data center ecosystem designed to handle high-performance computing workloads, artificial intelligence applications, and large-scale digital services. The facility is expected to become one of Google’s largest infrastructure investments globally and a key component of its international AI network.
The development is being executed in partnership with companies such as AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel, which will help build the core infrastructure, including data centres, connectivity systems, and energy integration. The project is structured across multiple campuses and is targeted for phased completion by 2028, reflecting its scale and long-term strategic importance.
Beyond infrastructure, the initiative is expected to significantly boost India’s technology ecosystem by creating jobs, strengthening cloud capabilities, and enabling businesses and startups to access advanced AI tools.
