Ashok Kumar Tiwari has been promoted to Deputy General Manager (DGM) at Vasai Vikas Sahakari Bank Ltd. (VVSB Bank) and has taken on the additional responsibility of Designated Data Protection Officer (DPO). Tiwari, who currently serves as the bank’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Assistant General Manager (AGM), announced the development through a LinkedIn post.
With the expanded responsibilities, Tiwari will continue to oversee information security while taking on a broader mandate covering data protection and privacy. His focus will include IT and information security, data governance and regulatory compliance, cybersecurity and cyber resilience, digital banking and technology transformation, operational resilience and risk management.
Tiwari said the new responsibility represents a renewed commitment to the organisation, with greater accountability around technology, security and data protection. He also acknowledged the trust and support of the bank’s Chairman, CEO, IT Strategy Committee Chairman and members of the Board of Directors.
The promotion comes as VVSB Bank continues to strengthen its cybersecurity and technology practices. The bank’s official website identifies Tiwari as its CISO and records his participation in its mandatory cybersecurity awareness programme conducted in July 2025. The programme covered cybersecurity compliance and best practices, emerging cyber threats, digital banking services and internal policies, with participation from the bank’s board members, executives, heads of departments and staff.
Tiwari has also been active in discussions around cybersecurity, governance and technology resilience in the cooperative banking sector. At the Bharat Cooperative Banking Summit 2026, he spoke about the importance of strengthening cybersecurity, IT governance, business continuity, regulatory compliance, vendor risk management and data governance for urban cooperative banks. He also highlighted AI governance and AI security governance as emerging areas of importance for banks.
In his new role, Tiwari said his priorities will include strengthening data protection and privacy practices alongside the bank’s existing cybersecurity and information security framework. He also listed AI governance and security among the areas that will receive attention as VVSB Bank continues its digital transformation.
Tiwari has been associated with VVSB Bank’s cybersecurity initiatives for several years. Public information from the bank shows him leading cybersecurity awareness activities, while industry platforms have also identified him as the bank’s CISO in discussions focused on cybersecurity and digital banking.
His expanded role brings together information security, cybersecurity, data protection and privacy responsibilities under one leadership mandate. As financial institutions increasingly rely on digital banking platforms and handle larger volumes of customer and operational data, these functions have become closely connected with technology governance, risk management and regulatory compliance.
