Jindal Steel Appoints Sandeep Modi as Chief Financial Officer

Jindal Steel Limited has appointed Sandeep Modi as its Chief Financial Officer, effective July 24, 2026, strengthening its senior leadership team as the integrated steel producer advances its growth, financial management and capacity-expansion priorities.

As CFO, Modi will oversee Jindal Steel’s financial strategy and governance framework, including financial planning and analysis, treasury, taxation, reporting, investor relations, capital allocation and risk management. He will also support the company’s executive leadership in evaluating investments and aligning financial decisions with its long-term business objectives.

Modi is a qualified Chartered Accountant with approximately two decades of experience across the metals, mining and power sectors. He most recently served as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President at Hindustan Zinc, where he was responsible for multiple corporate functions, including finance, financial planning and analysis, mergers and acquisitions, treasury, investor relations, legal, information technology, secretarial affairs and risk management. He stepped down from the position at the close of business on May 30, 2026, to pursue an external career opportunity.

Before becoming CFO of Hindustan Zinc in April 2023, Modi served as the company’s Deputy Chief Financial Officer. His responsibilities included supporting financial performance, strategic decision-making and major business initiatives. He also held nominee directorships at Serentica Renewables India entities, contributing to the governance of renewable-energy projects established to support the transition towards cleaner power.

Earlier, Modi served as Chief Financial Officer of Bharat Aluminium Company Limited, commonly known as BALCO, where he managed finance and strategic functions for the large-scale aluminium producer. His career also includes serving as CFO of Talwandi Sabo Power Limited. During that assignment, he led financial planning, taxation, treasury, regulatory and reporting responsibilities and worked on major refinancing transactions during the Covid-19 period.

His appointment forms part of a broader leadership restructuring at Jindal Steel. The company has also re-appointed Vidya Rattan Sharma as Managing Director, while naming Rajiv Kumar as Chief Operating Officer and Sukhjit S. Pasricha as Head of Human Resources. All four appointments took effect on July 24, 2026. Sunil Agrawal has stepped down as interim CFO but will continue to oversee the finance function, according to the company’s disclosure.

Jindal Steel is a New Delhi-headquartered integrated steel producer operating through a mine-to-metal model. The company has manufacturing facilities in Angul, Raigarh and Patratu and an integrated steelmaking capacity of 15.6 million tonnes per annum. Its portfolio supplies infrastructure, construction, railways and manufacturing applications.
