OpenAI has appointed Prabhjeet Singh as Managing Director for India, strengthening the company’s leadership team as it expands operations and enterprise AI adoption efforts in one of its fastest-growing markets.
Singh will join OpenAI in September and report to Kiran Mani, according to the company.
As OpenAI’s senior-most executive in India, Singh will oversee consumer growth, enterprise adoption, strategic partnerships, regulatory engagement, and operational expansion across the country. He will also focus on strengthening collaborations across India’s AI ecosystem while supporting the adoption of artificial intelligence among enterprises, startups, institutions, developers, and government organizations.
The appointment comes as OpenAI continues increasing investments in India amid rapidly growing demand for generative AI technologies, AI copilots, enterprise automation tools, and large language model applications across sectors including technology, finance, healthcare, education, and public services.
Prior to joining OpenAI, Singh spent nearly 11 years at Uber, most recently serving as President of Uber India and South Asia. In that role, he led the company’s mobility operations across India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
During his tenure, Uber expanded services including Auto, Moto, and Shuttle while strengthening its electric mobility initiatives and partnerships linked to India’s digital public infrastructure ecosystem, including collaborations connected to the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).
Before joining Uber in 2015, Singh worked at McKinsey & Company as an Associate Partner. He is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.
The leadership appointment highlights OpenAI’s growing strategic focus on India as enterprises and developers accelerate investments in AI adoption, automation, cloud infrastructure, and AI-driven digital transformation initiatives.
OpenAI is an artificial intelligence company focused on developing generative AI systems, large language models, and AI products for consumers, developers, and enterprises worldwide.
