The Rise of “Policy-Tech GCCs”

GCCs have evolved in their roles and are shifting away from being mere operational centres to become strategic and governance-driven centres. One of the recent trends witnessed in this regard includes the emergence of “Policy-Tech GCCs” that sit at the confluence of tech, regulatory intelligence, and public policy. With the increasing complexity of the regulatory landscape faced by companies around the world, these centres are playing a vital role in ensuring that innovations comply with laws and governance requirements.

There are several factors behind the shift in the role played by GCCs. The primary driver is that regulations and compliance requirements are becoming an integral part of core business and technological operations. Data privacy, AI, cyber security, and financial compliance have ceased to be individual areas of concern; they are becoming part of technology systems and products. Therefore, in addition to designing and managing these systems, the new generation of GCCs must integrate regulatory requirements and laws at the very beginning of the design process.

The rising complexities in regulations around the world have further driven the demand for an integrated GCC model. Companies that operate globally need to contend with fragmented and evolving regulatory environments, thereby necessitating the formation of dedicated teams for interpretation, harmonization, and implementation of the required regulations. In this regard, Policy-Tech GCCs form important nodes that facilitate this process by linking global corporate headquarters with local regulatory ecosystems.

“The emergence of Policy-Tech GCCs marks a decisive shift from execution to strategic governance, where technology and regulation are intrinsically linked. Organisations that embed policy thinking into their digital core will be better positioned to navigate complexity and lead with resilience,” said Mr.  Alouk Kumar Founder & CEO Inductus Group.

India is uniquely placed to spearhead this development thanks to its rich blend of technology and policy capabilities, along with favourable conditions within the policy framework for GCC growth. Multidisciplinary talent available in areas such as law, consulting, data analysis, and engineering ensures seamless functioning of these GCCs. Besides, efforts by the government in creating a favourable policy environment for such centres are also contributing to this trend towards greater value addition through innovation.

In today’s ever-evolving landscape that is heavily regulated and characterized by technology, GCCs have emerged into more of a strategic resource for organizations as opposed to operational ones. These centres play a significant role in determining how organizations engage in matters concerning governance, risk, and innovation at a global level. In this way, Policy-Tech GCCs change the perception of what these centres are all about, shifting them from being mere execution centres to ones where technology and regulations coexist.
