Abhishek Tomar is set to take on a new role as Head of Kensho Data at S&P Global Market Intelligence, marking a new phase in his more than two-decade career with S&P Global.
Tomar announced the move on LinkedIn, saying he will work with the Kensho Data team to transform S&P Global’s trusted data assets into AI-ready datasets and data-feed solutions for clients. His new responsibilities will also include work around capabilities such as the S&P Global AI Data Portal.
Tomar has spent more than 24 years building his career in India and has held several leadership positions at S&P Global. He previously served as Chief Data Officer for S&P Global Market Intelligence and later moved into the Enterprise Data Organization (EDO), where he became Head of Data. S&P Global currently lists him as Head of Data for its Enterprise Data Organization, where he leads the company’s enterprise data strategy and transformation agenda, with a focus on trusted, standardized and AI-ready data foundations.
During his tenure as Chief Data Officer at S&P Global Market Intelligence, Tomar was responsible for data strategy, data management, data transformation and data quality operations. S&P Global has also identified him as a member of the Market Intelligence Operating Committee.
Before becoming Chief Data Officer, Tomar served as Managing Director, India Operations at S&P Global. In that role, he led a workforce of more than 8,000 employees, according to S&P Global. His career has covered data, technology, operations and financial services, with more than 20 years of leadership experience.
Tomar’s association with S&P Global began through Capital IQ and later included SNL Financial. In his LinkedIn announcement, he described his career in three phases, beginning with Capital IQ, followed by his work with SNL and its data operations in India, and later his leadership responsibilities across S&P Global’s data organisation.
He also highlighted his involvement in bringing more than 10,000 colleagues together under a unified S&P Global identity during an earlier phase of the company’s transformation.
More recently, his work has focused on data, technology and AI. As Chief Data Officer and later through the Enterprise Data Organization, Tomar worked on standardising data foundations and developing scalable data capabilities across the organisation. S&P Global says the EDO is focused on data operations, business partnerships, stewardship and quality, while also supporting customer success and scalable data solutions.
His new role comes as S&P Global expands the use of its data assets across AI-based workflows. The company’s S&P Global AI Data Portal provides access to its datasets through both deterministic and adaptive retrieval methods. The portal is designed to allow AI systems and workflows to access S&P Global data, including financials, estimates, company information, transactions, market data and news.
Tomar will also relocate to New York for the next phase of his career. He said he will continue to remain connected with India through his role on the CRISIL Board. S&P Global identifies him as a member of the CRISIL Board, while CRISIL’s leadership information also lists him as Head of Data for S&P Global’s Enterprise Data Organization.
With his move to Kensho Data, Tomar will bring his experience across data strategy, operations, transformation and AI-ready data capabilities to a role focused on connecting S&P Global’s data assets with AI-driven products and client workflows.
