OpenAI has rolled out a major upgrade to ChatGPT with its new Company Knowledge feature, designed for Business, Enterprise, and Edu users. This powerful addition allows ChatGPT to securely access and analyse data from key workplace tools like Slack, Google Drive, SharePoint, and GitHub, enabling employees to receive context-aware, data-backed answers drawn directly from internal company systems.
Powered by an advanced version of GPT-5, the feature enables ChatGPT to pull insights from multiple connected data sources and present responses with clear citations. This marks a significant leap in enterprise AI usability, allowing teams to make faster, more informed decisions by consolidating knowledge that often remains buried across disparate tools such as emails, project trackers, and document repositories.
OpenAI says the system is also capable of handling ambiguous or incomplete queries, providing balanced answers that highlight differing viewpoints and unresolved decisions. This helps organizations move beyond surface-level automation toward deeper, contextually aware reasoning — a core step in bringing agentic intelligence into business environments.
Crucially, security and privacy are central to Company Knowledge’s design. The system functions strictly within existing user permissions, ensuring that ChatGPT can only access information that users are authorised to view. Enterprise and Edu administrators will have comprehensive control through tools like the Compliance API, which supports group-level permissions, access management, audit logs, and more. All data is encrypted and protected with enterprise-grade safeguards such as SSO, SCIM, and IP allowlisting.
OpenAI also confirmed that the new feature is just the beginning of a broader expansion of enterprise integrations. The company plans to introduce additional connectors — including Asana, GitLab Issues, and ClickUp — and extend Company Knowledge’s capabilities to work with browsing and image generation features in the near future.
With Company Knowledge, OpenAI is positioning ChatGPT as not just a conversational assistant, but a trusted enterprise AI partner — one capable of transforming scattered corporate information into actionable intelligence, all while maintaining the security, transparency, and compliance standards expected by large organizations.
