The Andhra Pradesh government has approved the establishment of an IBM Quantum Innovation Center (QIC) at the Amaravati Quantum Computing Centre (AQCC), marking a significant step in the state’s efforts to strengthen its presence in advanced computing and emerging technologies.
The announcement was made by IT Secretary Bhaskar Katamneni, who confirmed that the AQCC has received approval to host the IBM Quantum Innovation Center. The initiative is expected to enhance research, innovation, and skill development in the rapidly evolving field of quantum computing.
The approval positions Amaravati as an emerging hub for quantum technology research and collaboration, creating new opportunities for academic institutions, startups, researchers, and industry stakeholders.
As part of the initiative, the center will be able to participate in the IBM Quantum Network (IQN), a global ecosystem that brings together universities, enterprises, startups, research organizations, and technology partners working to advance quantum computing applications and capabilities.
The IBM Quantum Network serves as a collaborative platform designed to accelerate the development of quantum technologies through shared expertise, research programs, and access to advanced quantum computing resources. Through its participation in the network, the Amaravati facility is expected to contribute to research activities while supporting talent development and capacity-building initiatives.
Quantum Innovation Centers play a crucial role within the IBM Quantum Network by serving as dedicated hubs for research, innovation, workforce development, and industry collaboration.
The inclusion of Amaravati within this ecosystem is expected to provide researchers and organizations with opportunities to engage with a global community focused on solving complex computational challenges using quantum technologies.
Several prominent organizations are already part of the IBM Quantum Network, including aerospace giant Boeing, financial services company Wells Fargo, and healthcare institution Cleveland Clinic. Their participation highlights the growing interest in quantum computing across multiple industries, ranging from aviation and finance to healthcare and scientific research.
The development aligns with broader efforts to position Andhra Pradesh as a destination for high-technology investments and next-generation digital infrastructure. By supporting quantum computing initiatives, the state aims to foster innovation, attract research partnerships, and develop specialized talent in one of the world’s most advanced technological fields.
The approval of the IBM Quantum Innovation Center at Amaravati represents a strategic milestone for Andhra Pradesh’s technology ecosystem and reinforces the state’s commitment to becoming a key player in the future of quantum computing.
